Center for Undisciplined Research (2017-2018)

Public project, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and New Bedford Art Museum, Dartmouth and New Bedford, MA

The Center for Undisciplined Research is a nine-month, decentralized “center" commissioned and housed by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Based out of office #228 at the university’s art school in downtown New Bedford, MA, the Center is a student focused research collective and itinerant space that toes the boundaries of art and its capacity to serve as a tool for making meaning in the world; as a collective, we chose to research four main topics throughout the year: social justice, sustainability, local cultures, and music. Our primary purpose is to support people within the university in their journey to figure out how they want to learn and what they want to learn about, and we hope to assign value to the unstructured and loose ways we study people and places everyday, questioning what gets sanctioned as research.
